Stealing Dreams

Stealing Dreams

Our dreams are gifts from God. The enemy wants to deny our dreams in an attempt to steal our hope. Satan wants to steal your hopes and dreams because he understands the power of a dream. Just consider the following famous quotes, and you will begin to understand why his plan of attack is on our dreams:

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.-Anatole France

Nothing happens unless first we dream.-Carl Sandburg

Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.-Gloria Steinem

I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.-Henry David Thoreau

If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all. And so today I still have a dream.-Martin Luther King, jr

Dreams keep us moving. They are the source of our passion, and the vitality of our courage. Martin Luther King Jr is one of the greatest examples of this. Moses happens to be one, too.

God had given Moses a dream. It was a dream of freedom, prosperity, and sustainability for the Israelites. Moses’ dream was for the Promised Land, and he was willing to strive for it at all costs because he believed in that dream. It gave him courage to do things (through God) he never thought were possible.

Notice that God never told Moses his dream was too greedy or selfish. He never scolded Moses for dreaming of a land “flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8). But I bet Satan tried to make Moses think there was something wrong with this dream.

Imagine the victory Satan could achieve if he could defeat God’s promise to the Israelites. God made it very clear (Exodus 3:17 is an early example) that He was going to deliver these people. This was Satan’s big chance to show everyone that God was a liar, and that God did not have the sovereign power He claimed to have. Yet Satan knew he wasn’t strong enough to simply stop God from giving the Promised Land to the Israelites, so he had to steal the dream from Moses. If he could just discourage Moses from leading these people, he could show God to be a liar.

Satan wants to do the same with your dreams. He knows that he can’t stop God from answering your prayers and from blessing you. He knows that he isn’t strong enough to defeat God’s healing and salvation. But he can try and steal your hope and dreams. All he had to do was make Moses think it was greedy to take the Promised Land, and God loses. All he had to do with Martin Luther King Jr was steal his dream, and a whole civil rights movement could have been defeated. All he has to do with you is make you think your dream is foolish or flawed, and he can steal your inheritance in Christ.

I encourage you to embrace your dreams and seek God’s will in them. I believe He has given you your dreams for a reason, and He wants you to discover the purpose of His gift. If you aren’t sure how to do that, my prayers are with you and I hope that you will stay with me as this blog explores the victory of Christ in our dreams.

Remember, you can make your dreams come true in eternity with your actions here on earth today! Don’t miss our on your destiny and your Promised Land, because of discouraged dreams.
